People often ask, What are the health benefits of ginger juice?

This video was filmed at my juice bar, SpaJuiceBar, a few years ago. While the video is older, the information about ginger juice remains relevant today.

Ginger is Powerful! It is Nature's Healing Superfood.

Did you know that ginger juice is rich in antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties? This incredible root has been a superfood in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries and is celebrated for its remarkable healing benefits.

Ginger is a natural remedy for improving digestion, relieving stress, and even aiding in weight loss. Lately, I've been jogging more miles but noticed some pain in my lower back. My intuition led me to start drinking raw ginger juice shots each morning, and let me tell you, it's an experience!

Taking a shot of raw ginger juice is like taking a shot of alcohol, but instead of depleting your body, it cleanses and heals. The heat of ginger provides an immediate awakening, stimulating the senses and invigorating the body. To make it more palatable, I've juiced a quarter of an apple with the ginger as an alternative when the ginger bite is too much. This slight sweetness balances the ginger's intensity while maintaining its healing power.

The pain I experienced in my lower back turned out to be caused by flatulence. Ginger juice helped to alleviate the discomfort and ease my digestive issues.

Did you know Ginger is ideal for nausea and dispelling a stomach bug?

I have two quick stories to tell.

My Sister

First, I'll tell you about my sister. My sister was visiting me from Philadelphia. She went out to dinner at her favorite restaurant, the Cheesecake Factory, and had a 3-course meal with the third course being a hearty cheesecake. When she walked into my home, she was complaining about her stomach and how much she had eaten.

I told her about the healing effects of ginger and how it could alleviate the discomfort. Since my sister is what I call a pill popper — LOL! She has a pill for every discomfort she has. Naturally, she wanted to take one of her pills. I insisted she have a 1-oz shot of ginger juice. She finally acquiesced. She shoots the ginger back as if it were a whiskey shot, and within 30 seconds she runs to the bathroom to vomit. When she came out of the bathroom, she yelled, "Sonia, did you know that would happen?" I smiled and said, "Yes," and I asked her, "How do you feel now?" With great reluctance, she said, "I feel better." She was able to enjoy her evening without discomfort.

My Story

I had a stomach bug and felt nauseous all day with vomiting. I could not understand why I had this bug. This happened many, many years ago, when I was new to juicing and the herbal lifestyle. I read in one of my juicing books how ginger is excellent for nausea. I had been sick, lying in bed all day, and I needed relief, so I made ginger juice. I did a shot and felt the burn. Suddenly I had to vomit, and in my mind I was thinking, "I thought it would cure the nausea." I hate vomiting. But, to my surprise, I felt great immediately; the sickness was gone. I dispelled whatever bug I caught.

I have taken ginger juice for nausea many times and never vomited. Ginger is a powerful root, and it's one of my favorite herbal roots.

Ginger's Many Healing Benefits

Ginger's list of benefits is extensive, addressing many health concerns. Here's a quick look at what this powerful root can do:

  • Digestive Health: Relieves nausea, indigestion, upset stomach, heartburn, gas, stomach cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting. Effective for chemotherapy-induced nausea, morning sickness, and motion sickness.
  • Pain Relief: Helps alleviate muscle and joint pain, sprains, rheumatism, arthritis, migraines, menstrual cramps, sinusitis, and headaches.
  • Circulation and Heart Health: Lowers cholesterol, prevents blood clots and artery blockages, increases circulation, and acts as a natural blood thinner.
  • Cold and Flu Support: Ideal for symptoms like fever, chills, coughs, sinus congestion, and more.
  • Other Properties: Ginger is an analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antispasmodic powerhouse.

Why you should not peel the ginger?

When you peel the skin, you are discarding a significant amount of fiber, potassium, and unique antioxidants.

When I use ginger in my juice, smoothies, or cooking, I never peel it. I buy organic ginger to avoid chemicals and pesticides. I wash all my vegetables and herbs in white vinegar and water so there is no need to peel. But the peel contains valuable nutrients that are often discarded. The peel contains a high concentration of powerful antioxidants called phenolic compounds and flavonoids.

The antioxidant activity in the peel is distinct. While the flesh contains gingerols (responsible for that spicy kick and anti-nausea effects), the peel is rich in other flavonoids that contribute to its overall health benefits.

Since the skin contains additional fiber and unique antioxidants not found at the same concentration in the flesh, I prefer to enjoy ginger with the peel whenever possible. Enjoy it in your juice, smoothie, tea, and your wonderful food. Enjoy it and don't peel.

This is just a brief juice tip on the wonders of ginger juice. Ginger juice is one of the simplest ways to enjoy the health benefits of ginger; the benefits are far-reaching. Whether you use it to support digestion, ease occasional nausea, add flavor to smoothies, or simply enjoy it as part of a healthy lifestyle, ginger remains one of nature's most versatile roots.
